Chyna Mccoy
Killer of Killers
Interview by Aurélien Henry OBAMA
Shiai Magazine: Welcome Brother Chyna Mccoy to the new Shiai Magazine. Tell us more about your life and what brought you in the world of martial arts?
Chyna Mccoy: What brought me into the world of Martial Arts was two factors, my Father who was Military and who loved martial Arts & the legendary Bruce Lee. For me when I was a youth, every Saturday was a turning point to watch Kung Fu action Theater.
Shiai Magazine: You have practices various forms of martial arts and sport combat methods, have you encountered African martial arts fighting systems?
Chyna Mccoy: I have practiced various forms of Martial Arts from Taekwon-do to Japanese Karate’. One of the most intriguing arts I have encountered was Caperieoa. fluent in it’s movements.
Shiai Magazine: Have you been to Africa the motherland?
Chyna Mccoy: Have I been to the Motherland? Hmmmm only through dreams and pictures…lol
Shiai Magazine: Have you dreamt in doing a movie in Africa?

Chyna Mccoy: I’ ve dreamt of doing a Film in Africa especially an Action one. The visuals the vastness the beauty all alluring and screaming for an action film to be shot there.
Shiai Magazine: Mention names Africans/Blacks who have inspired you in the practices of martial arts?
Chyna Mccoy: People who have inspired me in the Arts as I grew older have been greats like Jim Kelly, Mohammad a tremendous sifu out of New York, also Ron Van Clief, Micheal Jai White & many others.
Shiai Magazine: Your big opening debut was in the film Matrix; tell us exactly your role and experience?
Chyna Mccoy: my role in The Matrix? Hmmmm I started out as the action fight double for Morpheus but once we got to Australia a call came in and the Brothers asked me if I wanted to do the stunts for him as well. No worries I said whatever you
need I am there and a legend was born-hahahaha
Shiai Magazine: What is the difference between real fight martial arts and martial arts film choreography
Chyna Mccoy: ? The real difference is…well there is really no difference, you can apply both to either worlds. And in both sometimes you connect sometimes you don’t.
Shiai Magazine: Do you belong to any martial arts organizations or do you have a martial arts school?
Chyna Mccoy: I have actually had no formal training in my life. Just visuals, and books. So I’m self taught.
Shiai Magazine: As an African American martial arts filmmaker, is it easy to impose yourself in Hollywood? Is it more difficult being Black or just a martial artist who wants to make a movie?
Chyna Mccoy: Being an African American in Hollywood is one of the most difficult fights any African American can take on. It’s very difficult for Hollywood only allows one African American in at a time. That’s why everyone can place each and every name, from Wesley Snipes, Micheal Clark Duncan, Micheal Jai White, Treach, Tyresse all came into Hollywood one at a time…sad…sad…
Shiai Magazine: You are working on new action martial arts film called Killer of Killers starring yourself uniting the biggest aspiring martial arts actors in your film? What exactly inspire you to do film?
Chyna Mccoy: what inspired me to do “killer of Killers” was to bring about a new African American Action Star as well of a new way of making a great Assassin film and not just the same old story with the assassin with a gun in a suit. I also want to say that as funny as it may sound, a software program called action essentials 2 helped greatly with my inspiration.
Shiai Magazine: From cast and crew Killer of Killers will likely be a classical martial arts film. Why it is that Hollywood is afraid to promote true martial artist who can act in their super productions (They prefer to take famous actors who don’t know martial arts)?
Chyna Mccoy: Why Hollywood won’t accept true martial Artist is based off of two things numbers which is what a famous actor can bring to the table and 2. they are Afraid of African Americans which is why you see more Caucasian Action Actors than African American. Hollywood likes to keep us friendly and non-threatening. Which is why all of our action actors are gone – from Wesley, to Vin Diesel to The Rock all more film friendly now. And that is why there are more African American comedians than there are Action stars.
Shiai Magazine: One has the impression that independent martial arts movies are better than those movies from big production film house?
Chyna Mccoy: Martial Art film that are indie born are far better than those Hollywood Blockbusters for the Hollywood films rely on Money and Visual effects to save them where Indie Films rely on story and raw talent and real action which brings about a far better film.
Shiai Magazine: Today many Africans and African Diaspora community are now interested in promoting African martial arts through books, seminars, fighting systems including movies, why a sudden interest in our cultural heritage and traditions?
Chyna Mccoy: The sudden change? I would say the change has always been there which is why Actors like Jim Kelly & Ron Van clief and others existed before. It’s just to the point even in Hollywood there are no more American Actors they are all from Europe. And now we have an African American President it has set a new standard to show the string pullers that the world really wants change.
Shiai Magazine: Do you think that Africa deserves to have their own African martial arts movies with their own action film stars? Many action and martial arts movies are made in African continent but lacks support and promotion. Do you think that Lost Brother “Waka-waka man” Aurelien Henry OBAMA productions from Cameroon can make it big in the world?
Chyna Mccoy: I think Africa is way over due as far as big film productions. In order for Africa to gain support they have to do it the right way to get attention. You bring in an American African American star and surround him with African Actors and become one. During that time the African star gets to shine in his own Country and gain recognition.
I also feel the new film Waka-waka man translated to a name that is understood around the world could gain great recognition internationally.
Shiai Magazine: What advice can you give to African child although life is some time hard in Africa?
Chyna Mccoy: Advice I like to give to the new African stars, Children and our future generation is too never say die and don’t feel as if only America has all the answers. We all have struggles throughout the world, it’s just all on how well you handle yours and overcome all obstacles.
Shiai Magazine: What do you think about this African online martial arts magazine? Do you think that international martial arts community should support this African initiatives which wants to valorize African/Black people who practices martial arts in general and African martial arts through sponsors, donations, aids and moral supports?
Chyna Mccoy: I think the African online Martial Arts magazine is brilliant and deserves a lot of support. It’s an eye opener to any and all and enlightens. I feel if one speaks on Africa one should cover all of Africa’s greatness including Martial Arts which is why AOMAM is a great tool to cover what America is missing everytime it talks about Africa. There is far more culture to Africa than just the Serengeti.
Shiai Magazine: Any last words?
Chyna Mccoy: I also want to state that sometime in the near future I will be able to come to the Motherland and continue to do action Films alongside my Brothers Obama, Robert Parham and other greats in the Martial world.
Shiai Magazine: Thank you brother Chyna Mccoy for accepting our interview, we hope one day you will visit us in Cameroon “Africa in miniature”, God bless you and let our ancestors guide your path.
Chyna Mccoy: Thank you Shai Magazine for having me. Love to the motherland and all her blessings.
